Workshop Focuses on Metal Theft and Heavy Equipment Theft

CICP hosted a workshop September 2011 to familiarize contractors and law enforcement with Oregon’s scrap metal laws. Deputy District Attorneys Bracken McKey of Washington County and Doug Marteeney of Linn County as well as several scrap metal recyclers participated in a panel discussion. Jeff Theide from Oregon Electric Group facilitated the discussion.

In the afternoon law enforcement officials received training from Cliff Chezum from the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) about heavy equipment. Chezum provided information about PIN Numbers for different types of equipment. The attendees also learned some indicators of questionable PIN Numbers.

David Grant Mossman, from the National Equipment Register (NER) lead the afternoon session for contractors and discussed strategies contractors can implement (prior to a theft) to help law enforcement recover stolen heavy equipment.

CICP is grateful to our vendor sponsors: Alarm & Access Control Technologies, Inc., Knighthawk Protection and the National Equipment Register. These sponsors help make education sessions for contractors and law enforcement possible. Thank you!
